rutina-earringsVampire related shows and movies just seem to be appearing everywhere at the moment.

true-blood

One of my favourite shows for a few years has been True Blood which is based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels. Rutina Wesley, who plays Tara Thornton (one of the shows main characters), wore these earrings to the premiere of the second series.

To create these glitzy earrings I have used swarovski crystal rivolis with a peyote stitch bezel around and then a cluster for the teardrop.  I’ve combined these with a pair of hinged crystal earring wires.

I also made this incredible necklace using some of our altered art supplies watch vials. I have used 22 gauge wire as a small loop to create the hook and some food colouring to represent blood in the vial. The vintage label I have given an aged look with some sepia accents combined with black glaze pens. The vial is then combined with some firepolish and swarovski crystals in blood red and fine chain to make a unique necklace, perfect for creatures of the night.

Star Style: Ginnifer Goodwin II

27 July, 2009

I know people are going to think that I am obsessed with particular things (owls being just one of them).  I’ve spent hours researching for our star style section, but unfortunately,  few celebrities are accessorizing their outfits with jewellery - and rarely to photographed events. (Though I have to say that the square shape of current clothing styles isn’t helping the cause with necklace designs.) So given this, we are revisiting the style of Ginnifer Goodwin.

Ginnifer Goodwin wore these earrings and bracelet to one of her late night with David Letterman appearances.  Although the jewellery is a small part of her outfit, it adds elegance to her simple black attire.

For my take on the earrings: I have started with simple 22 gauge wire and wrapped one of a 12mm czech firepolish crystal in dark topaz along with some fancy bead-caps to give it some jazz. I then attached to a pair of earring wires that have the ball on the front.

For the bracelet cuff: I have crocheted 28 gauge wire and large czech firepolish beads, and threaded on a mixture of 8mm and 10mm cathedral finishes with some round 12mm finishes aswell. It’s then just a simple chrochet chain stitch in rows that surround the 1st middle row. Then attach the hook and eye clasp with some remaining peices of the 28 gauge wire.

There are only 4 rows in the bracelet, but due to the sheer size of the crystals the rows bulk up and turn the bracelet into this chunky cuff creation.

Star Style : Ruby Rose

Ruby Rose has become one of the most popular Australian celebrities at the moment, with her featured as a guest on a lot of TV shows and media events. And fortunately for us: Ruby Rose almost always wears jewellery to accessorize her outfits and variety of looks.

This black simple necklace she wore to one of the MTV gigs that she hosted recently.  It’s rather rock chic, yet is very long and is quite slimming when worn.

For my take: I have used some glass connector rings, swarovski crystals in black diamond, cute carved cinnabar hearts in black and assorted connectors. They are all wire wrapped and connected with 22 gauge wire in antique silver. The necklace doesn’t have a clasp as it is just a continuous circle and can be just slipped over your head. If you have a larger frame you could just add some additional connector beads or repeat a section again. It’s that easy!

If you’re on Twitter, you can follow Ruby Rose and don’t forget to follow BeadBlog.com.au too!

Star Style : Kasey Chambers

kasey-chambers

Australian alternative country singer and songwriter Kasey Chambers made a real statement with these filigree earrings at the recent sound aid concert. They’re rather nice, large filigree doily-shaped metal findings which are attached onto an ear-wire to create a massive earring.

I’ve created two different versions of this style of earrings.  The first using the Swarovski crystal rhodium filigrees with set Swarovski crystal stones which create  a very glitzy version.

The second version is with two brass filigree shapes and finished off with some jet nut Swarovski crystal stones.  They make a large earring, but would be very effective and stand out when worn.

Star Style with Portia de Rossi - Navette Ring

Ellen DeGeneres & Portia de Rossi

In this months new issue of Australian beading I have one of my favourite celebrity style projects featured. It’s the stunning engagement ring that Ellen DeGeneres gave the gorgeous Portia de Rossi. The original is a Neil Lane, and features a diamond in the centre with ribbons of pink diamonds all set in white gold.

For my take I have used a navette stone and strips of wire wrapped light amethyst 3mm swarovski crystals, carefully wire wrapped into this neat stylish ring.

Star Style with Ginnifer Goodwin

Ginnifer Goodwin - star of He's Not That Into You

When one of my favourite actors, Ginnifer Goodwin attended the premiere of her latest movie He’s Just Not That Into You wearing this gorgeous statement, I just knew that I had to use this as our first example of celebrity style in our bead blog.

This round necklace formation with flowers is a very popular style of necklace in Hollywood at the moment with quite a few Oscar jewellery pieces following the same general structure.

The original looks to be based on copper wire with Baltic amber beads.  Different varieties of amber cause differences in tone.

For my take on this piece, I have used the Czech glass diamonds in a topaz ab and smokey topaz ab combined with some copper Swarovski crystals wired into flower formations to create the same effect. It’s a rather chunky necklace and just looks amazing draped over a top or jumper.

Star Style At Sound Aid - Olivia Newton John

22 March, 2009
Filed under: star style — Louise Jensen @ 6:30 pm

At the recent Sound Aid concert to raise money for the Victorian Bushfire and Queensland Flood victims, most musicians were playing it save and wearing very little jewellery. I find lately celebrities aren’t wearing much jewellery to events, they wear beautiful yet safe outfits and I have come to the conclusion that it must be a consequence of the worst dressed scandals.

Olivia Newton John at Sound Aid (jewellery ring)

I did notice this ring worn by Olivia Newton John when she performed the finale with Barry Gibb. I’m not sure who it was made by but it seems to be constructed of a navette oval shaped ring with crystals and bugle shaped beads. Rings with “bling” are very popular at the moment, with Heidi Klum and Beyoncé Knowles both sporting similar statement rings at the Academy Awards.

Star Style with Illeana Douglas

15 March, 2009
Filed under: star style — Louise Jensen @ 11:20 pm
Vintage style is very popular at the moment and the most favourite style of all at WishWare Beads.

Particularly in vogue are beads with decals of vintage images: owls, trees, burlesque ladies and simplified animals which just seem to fly off the shelves of my shop. It seems that we may have morphed back to the 1930-40’s and many regret sending those old style rosary beads to the op-shop when they temporarily went out of fashion!

Illeana Douglas wearing vintage style beaded necklace

This necklace worn by actress Illeana Douglas ( star of Six Feet Under, Ugly Betty ) taps into the vintage feel really well.  A stylish tree silhouette set in a filigree silver piece, which is capped off with rosary type neck-wire in simple black.  Illeana offset this really well with her bright colours at the 2009 Independent Spirit Awards.

For my angle on this piece I’ve used NEW “Fragments” Acrylic Ovals and adhered a silohette tree print to the back. Diamond glaze was used to make it sit straight ( with no bubbles! ).  This focal was then wrapped with a silver plated square filigree piece using chainnose pliers. The neckwire was devised to compliment using silver wire and swarovski crystal bicones in jet black.
