rutina-earringsVampire related shows and movies just seem to be appearing everywhere at the moment.

true-blood

One of my favourite shows for a few years has been True Blood which is based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels. Rutina Wesley, who plays Tara Thornton (one of the shows main characters), wore these earrings to the premiere of the second series.

To create these glitzy earrings I have used swarovski crystal rivolis with a peyote stitch bezel around and then a cluster for the teardrop.  I’ve combined these with a pair of hinged crystal earring wires.

I also made this incredible necklace using some of our altered art supplies watch vials. I have used 22 gauge wire as a small loop to create the hook and some food colouring to represent blood in the vial. The vintage label I have given an aged look with some sepia accents combined with black glaze pens. The vial is then combined with some firepolish and swarovski crystals in blood red and fine chain to make a unique necklace, perfect for creatures of the night.

Our new water decals are a great addition to any ones bead collection.

They are simple to use, in a great range of patterns and can be used on glass, wood, ceramic, acrylic and more.

To use them you need to submerge them in water for around about 30 seconds or until the decal parts from the paper backing. Making sure that the surface you want the decal to be on is clean and then take it out of the water and press onto the surface. You then need to smooth over from the centre towards the corners, as required.

TIP: I’ve found it best to position the decal onto the surface and then press it into a beading mat to get all the bubbles out.

Once the decal is dry apply a top coating of glaze : triple thick glaze or diamond glaze will do the trick.

I have made the examples using this technique and our porcelain plain beads, which are really great for altered art projects. You can also use them with smooch accent inks and paper to embellish them and give them some depth.

New Product : Airdry Polymer clay

10 September, 2009

I find Kato and basic polymer clay really hard to sell in the store as there is a lot of technical information that is required for the novice to start, so I was just thrilled when they sent me the information for an air dry polymer clay.
