At the recent Sound Aid concert to raise money for the Victorian Bushfire and Queensland Flood victims, most musicians were playing it save and wearing very little jewellery. I find lately celebrities aren’t wearing much jewellery to events, they wear beautiful yet safe outfits and I have come to the conclusion that it must be a consequence of the worst dressed scandals.
I did notice this ring worn by Olivia Newton John when she performed the finale with Barry Gibb. I’m not sure who it was made by but it seems to be constructed of a navette oval shaped ring with crystals and bugle shaped beads. Rings with “bling” are very popular at the moment, with Heidi Klum and Beyoncé Knowles both sporting similar statement rings at the Academy Awards.

The NEW range of fresh pendants include matte butterfly pendants with detailing on the back and etchings. The resin range also includes matte resin with a backing in a swirl with black detailing. I just love it when items like this come into my store as they give me ( and my customers ) a sudden burst of inspiration for new projects!
The Birds & The Butterflies
I’ve created a dangle necklace using 22 gauge wire and freshwater pearls in one of my favourite colours: “peacock grey”. Each bead is individually wrapped onto silver plated headpins with balls and then clustered onto the top of the matte fresh pendants.
For these sweet butterfly earrings I have used two of the small butterfly charms. These come in a pack of 9 pieces with 3 assorted styles.
The resin pendants come in the long pendant style or go-go 60’s style with a matte finish and a old fashioned black whirl pattern on the back. For this piece I teamed it up with some black 22 gauge wire and spiralled some seed beads around one core strand. Keep in mind that with this necklace style you do need to originally have the wires very long. The necklace pictured above is a choker length, but a longer length one would also be great for wearing over an evening top.

Vintage style is very popular at the moment and the most favourite style of all at WishWare Beads.
Particularly in vogue are beads with decals of vintage images: owls, trees, burlesque ladies and simplified animals which just seem to fly off the shelves of my shop. It seems that we may have morphed back to the 1930-40’s and many regret sending those old style rosary beads to the op-shop when they temporarily went out of fashion!
This necklace worn by actress Illeana Douglas ( star of Six Feet Under, Ugly Betty ) taps into the vintage feel really well. A stylish tree silhouette set in a filigree silver piece, which is capped off with rosary type neck-wire in simple black. Illeana offset this really well with her bright colours at the 2009 Independent Spirit Awards.
For my angle on this piece I’ve used NEW “Fragments” Acrylic Ovals and adhered a silohette tree print to the back. Diamond glaze was used to make it sit straight ( with no bubbles! ). This focal was then wrapped with a silver plated square filigree piece using chainnose pliers. The neckwire was devised to compliment using silver wire and swarovski crystal bicones in jet black.

Glimmer Glass are new transparent acrylic overlays that can be used in crafts, scrap-booking, card making and more. At WishWare Beads, we have also used them to make distinct and lovely jewellery pieces.
Featuring printed detail they come in an assorted pack of 32pcs, with the colours cocoa and maroon.

In my Owl Earrings below, I’ve used two of the pieces provided in the packet and used a metal screw punch to punch out 4 holes in the design. The cocoa coloured Glimmer Glass were then combined with Swarovski twist crystals in golden shadow. These will look super cute perched on your ears!
